How is it to be a young adult in Cornwall today?

This is a demanding question in the light of reports of rising living costs, housing crises and long-term impacts of the pandemic and Brexit. Letting young adults explain their opportunities and struggles concerning their lives in Cornwall can help us fight inequality between communities, individuals, and regions.

Cornwall as a region is an intersection of opportunities, investments, communities, and socio-economic issues such as job insecurity, housing crisis, impact from the pandemic, and Brexit. Understanding the future for young adults here is essential.

Furthermore, statistics show that it is hard for Cornwall to keep adults in their 20s in the region. According to the ONS, Cornwall is the second poorest region in Northern Europe, and several areas are classed as some of the most deprived in England. Even before Covid-19 and Brexit, the part struggled with socio-economic inequality. The pandemic hit Cornwall hard, as 80 per cent of companies in the area works with hospitality, and many individuals work on seasonal contracts.

Aims

Giving young adults the possibility to explain and show parts of their lives: what dreams, hopes and fears etc. Hopefully helps to visualize a regional and national socio-economic structure.
