Food Banks

Food Banks faces record demand

According to one of the UK’s most comprehensive food bank networks, the Independent Food Aid Network, emergency supplies requests increased by 175% in May. This is an unprecedented increase.

The growing socio-economic gaps are particularly evident in Cornwall. The region is one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations, and 80 per cent of the companies in the area depends on tourism. Many only have jobs during the summer season, often precarious employment, which runs from April to October. The lockdown that followed from the 23rd of March, had huge implications on many households as their economy plunged.
